BIPHOREP poster 2
Concentrations of biogenic VOCs and ozone at a North European site
Text and pictures are from a poster
(Laurila et al. 1997b)
presented in Seventh European
Symposium on Physico-Chemical Behaviour of Atmospheric Pollutants in Venice,
Italy, October 2.-4. 1996 by Tuomas Laurila, Hannele Hakola,
Janne Rinne and Virpi Lindfors (1). .
Ozone and other photochemical oxidants are formed in the troposphere
through complex interactions between the oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and
volatile organic compounds (VOC). Boreal forests are a source of
potentially high amounts of biogenic VOCs. As part of the BIPHOREP
(Biogenic VOC Emissions and Photochemistry in the Boreal Regions of
Europe, see Poster O-11), we have studied the concentrations of biogenic
and anthropogenic VOC species in northern Europe. Here we present results
on background isoprene and terpene concentrations, and discuss their
variability according to the climatic conditions. Map from: Posch et al.,
