Figure 3. The background concentrations of anthropogenic VOCs (n-butane) show the typical North-European gradient. The biogenic VOC concentrations are higher in the warmer southern parts of the boreal region. The isoprene concentrations are low in the marine environment at Utö island but higher at Mekrijärvi and Pallas, reflecting the high isoprene emissions of terrestrial ecosystems.
